Applications open for NATO Chief Scientist Grants programme
The NATO STO is now accepting applications for the 2026 NATO Chief Scientist Grants, which provide funding to support research in science and technology initiatives that contribute to global security and scientific advancement.
This year, the STO is seeking applications on the following themes, based on the Macro Trends identified in the S&T Trends 2025 Report:
- A revolution in biotechnology
- Deterrence and strategic competition
- Public trust
- Foresight for capability development
Successful applications will offer research proposals that examine the high-level implications of a technological or scientific trend through a strategic lens, ultimately contributing to the security of the Alliance.
This year, the programme will award €500,000 in total, with individual grants of up to €100,000, depending on the scope of the project. Projects should span approximately 6 months and deliver results before 15 November 2026, 23:59 CET.
Applications are open now until 15 March 2026, 23:59 CET.
